ABSTRACT WALL ART FOR THE LIVING ROOM
Abstract wall art for the living room, made to order on Hahnemühle archival paper
The works here are all from Ground Notes. Abstractions By Dev. Paintings that began in the Himalayan foothills and arrived at abstraction through observation.
A living room asks for a work that holds from across the room. These compositions do that. Earthy ochres, layered grey washes, resolved forms. Nothing here is decorative. The colour does not compete with furniture. It lives beside it. Every work is made to order on Hahnemühle archival paper, from ₹2,999.
The Works
Where Rivers Rest holds stillness at scale, made for the wall you see from the sofa. Irrational Fiction Called Life is vertical and structured, right for a narrow panel between windows. Dusk Over Ridge carries the weight of evening and is one of two limited editions here. Spring I and Spring II bring the loudest colour in the range, which is still quiet. Happy Tortoise is the other edition of fifty.
Size for This Room
Large (45x60cm) or X-Large (60x90cm) work best. Medium (30x40cm) only if wall space is limited. The viewing distance principle: at three metres, a Large reads as a whole. Hang with the centre at 145 to 150cm from the floor.
Frame and Paper
In natural light, Gallery White or unframed keeps the work open. Ebony Black anchors a bright room. Made-to-order works print on Hahnemühle Fine Art Matte 210gsm; the limited editions on Museum Etching 350gsm. More in why we print on Hahnemühle.
Nothing here is decorative. The colour does not compete with furniture. It lives beside it.
Ground Notes
A living room does not need more things. It needs one thing worth looking at from the far side of the sofa. The full set lives in Ground Notes. For the palette itself, see earth tone wall art. For the room next door, wall art for the bedroom.
What size wall art does a living room need?
Large (45x60cm) or X-Large (60x90cm) for the main wall. A living room is viewed from three metres or more, and at that distance smaller works read as clutter rather than composition. Use Medium (30x40cm) only on a narrow panel or beside shelving. Hang with the centre at 145 to 150cm from the floor.
Which of these works suits a large wall?
Where Rivers Rest and Dusk Over Ridge at X-Large hold a long wall on their own. Both were composed to be read as a whole from across a room. If the wall runs wide, one X-Large centred beats a row of small frames.
Which frame works in natural light?
Gallery White or unframed. A living room with daylight wants the work kept open, and a white frame disappears against most walls. Ebony Black is the counterweight: it anchors a bright, high-ceilinged room. Walnut Brown and Warm Oak sit best beside wooden furniture.
What paper are these printed on?
Made-to-order works print on Hahnemühle Fine Art Matte 210gsm, an archival sheet with a natural matte surface. The two limited editions, Dusk Over Ridge and Happy Tortoise, print on Hahnemühle Museum Etching 350gsm. Both are rated 100+ years under recommended display conditions.
